How I came to start Jewel Divas!!!

I’m sitting here writing my first non-jewellery post, although I think it’s going to come back to jewellery.

This will be more a post about me starting my business.

I’ve made jewellery for myself for years. I never sold at markets, and whatever presents I gave were destroyed or unappreciated.

So I think that pretty much stopped me from really doing anything about jewellery. Except for buying or making it for myself.

For years now, people that have commented on my jewellery have told me I should sell at markets or start up a store, or sell it to a shop.

That’s all well and good for them to say, and I don’t think they have ANY idea of what it takes to start a business, or make the amount pieces of jewellery and accessories to have enough to sell. It’s been quite a hassle doing it on my own.

I started with a WEA course on starting an online business, took classes on silver jewellery making, read as many books as possible, spent an insane amount setting up all the legals, and buying the beads, pendants, etc, online.

It’s taken one year and three months to finally get online from when the thought entered my head about starting this business. That would be May of 2008.

I’ve had people screw me around, wasting my time, my energy, my money!!!

People that weren’t interested in helping me by selling my jewellery on consignment can go jump. You have no idea what you’re missing out on.

People that didn’t take me seriously every time I stated when I wanted things done by, or the things that needed doing for me to get this site going.

People that I wanted to kill for their lack of professionalism when supposedly running a business.

I’ve done it on my own, it’s been mentally, emotionally, and physically tiring, but I’ve done it.

I’m just not sure if I should be relaxing/celebrating yet. None of it has sunk in at all. That I now have an online store to run, tonnes of jewellery and accessories to make, plus advertising myself everywhere online.

It’s been a very long road to get where I am now. And I know it’s going to be an even longer road to get to where I want to be and go.

But I will get there. I am determined about that.
