Following on from last week’s self publishing information folder, this week it’s the follow up, The Business Side of Self Publishing: Publicity, Legals and Information. As the name suggests, it’s all about the business side of self publishing, from the legalities, to taxes, info on how to get publicity, and any other information that may be useful.
Once again I took the cover from my non fiction book under my pen name, and used it for the inside cover as well which covers the FORMATTING section. All info on formatting your stories go here.
The next section is CREATE & MARKET. This is where info on creation is, such as companies and their details that I use to create my books, my editor, my cover creator etc, plus ideas on how to market my book.
There’s also the ELECTRONIC section which will contain information that has to do with the e-book versions and what is needed for all of those websites.
Next comes PRINT. As with the electric section, this area contains all legals on publishing in paperback at CreateSpace, and will be added to if I use any other company.
After PRINT is PUBLICITY. This space is for all details on getting publicity, companies to use, and how to go about it.
And then we come to LEGALITIES. Gotta have this section because legalities are the biggest deal after publishing. Have an Australian AND an American section because America is where you will be publishing.
After legalities comes OTHER. This is where Author Articles, articles on self-publishing from magazines and any other bit of info I might want to add will go. I have a Jackie Collins interview and am hoping to add a few more. Jackie is my inspiration idol and it still sucks that she has passed.
As usual, I bought a J Burrows $5.99 turquoise insert 3D ring folder from OfficeWorks and three boxes of plastic insert pages from Kmart for $12. I made the tabbed inserts from OfficeWorks using coloured manilla folders, again, here’s the how to guide to making those, and left over manilla folders I had lying around.
If you’re planning on self publishing, getting together a couple of folders of information, like with any other business, is a must have. You need info from each website and articles on self publishing, marketing, publicity and definitely legalities.
