Movie Review: 1408 and Crimson Peak

1408

I remember thinking I wanted to watch this when it came out but I didn’t realise it was made back in 2007.

What you think is going to be a scary movie is to a degree. While it had me jumping at certain points through it, it also had me scratching my head as it jumped around.

One minute you think he’s out of the room then you find he’s really not. I don’t think it gave a reason for being haunted, and Samuel L Jackson does what he does best in movies. Plays the dude that tells you you’re a stupid bat shit crazy mother fucker but lets you do what you want and you have to deal with the consequences.

John Cusack does what he does best. Plays an author (as he did in 2012 my fave disaster movie) who has serious issues and an ex-wife and kid. The end was surprising, and a little freaky, but it’s worth the watch if you’re into horror.

I give it 8 out of 10

Crimson Peak.

Now I didn’t think I had seen this movie, and I still don’t think I had until this week, but there is something very familiar about parts of it. I can swear I have seen parts of this movie in other movies.

It scared the bejesus out of Stephen King, who wrote the short story 1408 is based on, but I didn’t find it particularly scary. Yes there were parts that made me jump and my heart race, but then there were parts that were, get off the floor you stupid bitch and do something.

The story was a bit lopsided. I don’t think the reason for the weirdness was told except for the fact Tom Hiddleston’s character had married a few women for their money and still lived in the family manor with his sister who he was also fucking and that the sister was bat shit crazy and when she was fourteen killed the mother with a knife to the head.

Weird shit this movie and not all that scary.

I give it 6 out of 10
