What I Did on My First Writing Holiday for 2022

I mentioned in my posts at the beginning of the year, that I was hoping to get a novel written.

I finally managed it after almost three months of headachy sick shit that kept putting me off.

As per my plan for the year, and the changes I had made for myself and the sake of my health, if I felt sick, I didn’t push it. I set it aside and did other things instead, or just took a break.

And that is why it has taken me 11 weeks and 2 days to finish off almost 125,000 words in a novel.

The first part of which was handwritten in one notebook, and took 123.5 pages. I realised it wasn’t going to work anymore, me hand writing books, and then typing them up, so I made the decision, after 16 years, to cut the first layer, the actual handwriting, out of the equation.

And the equation is so much better.

I was writing anywhere from 4,000 to 13,000 words every day and finished off the book in another 10 days, making it 20 days in total across those 11 weeks and 2 days. I also tried to write only between 11am and 3pm when I had the energy. It seemed to work well with accomplishing the word count of 5,000 words each day that I’d set.

And that is what I’ve been finishing off these school holidays, from the 16th to the 25th, I typed up over 30,000 words to finish it.

But I had also decided to never write a long book ever again…

Oh well…

I’m going to slash and burn those 25,000 words.

On the other hand, we had other things to do as well. We were supposed to get the car in for repairs, but that kept changing.

I did the usual shopping, and chiro, and finished off this month’s blog posts.

We had multiple public holidays for Easter and then Anzac day.

I bought a tonne of t-shirts from Redbubble, and bought gorgeous pieces of jewellery from eBay.

I also read a few books after finishing off my book, so I could relax a bit before figuring out what I’m writing next and before getting stuck into edits. I still have other novels and my non-fic planned for this year, so we’ll see.

Oh, I also started posting videos to TikTok and Instagram. You can see what I look and sound like, rather funny, quite frankly, here at TikTok, and here at Instagram.

What did you guys get up to in the last few weeks?

Part of it. The other part is simplifying my routine until it suits me this time round.
