When you’re a blogger and follow other bloggers there will always come a time when you know it’s time to move on. They no longer appeal to you in some way, shape or form or you no longer feel comfortable commenting on their social media due to comments you receive back from them. This has happened a few times over the last few years and I realise the only thing to do is stop following them.

I don’t like feeling insulted or even saddened by replies I receive back, and I certainly don’t like thinking I’ve insulted someone all because I asked a question or made a comment about something they wrote or showed on their blog. It worries me that people will take my comments the wrong way. 

Unfortunately you cannot go through life like this, worrying about being your true self AND whether these people will accept you or reject you. It’s just like in your real life. If people don’t like you you have nothing to do with them. And so, in the blogging world, it’s exactly the same. I have been treated badly by some bloggers and people in general and have constantly worried about being my true self and writing exactly what I would say in real life, as those are the simple, boring and often plain comments I have been blocked or treated badly for.

I always try to comment to the best of my ability and hopefully am not insulting. Unfortunately more and more these days even simple comments directed at or about an article, even if it’s about clothing, or the colour of it, can be taken the wrong way so many times.

My intentions are to not be insulting, just be myself and comment as myself, expressing my thoughts on what’s been written. Isn’t that the point of blogging? To get comments from people. But it seems this is never good enough and it’s sad how there are less and less places for people to be themselves online and express their real thoughts regardless of how simple their comments are, for most times it will be taken the wrong way.

Sadly, the nuances of conversation goes out the window when it comes in a typed comment, and because of this I know that my comments may not be received well simply due to me being so different with different thoughts, feelings and ways of doing and seeing things. I refuse to suck up to people and tell them they look good if I don’t think they do, which is why I generally refrain from such comments and focus more on the subject, article or something in particular they wrote in their post. 

It’s sad that the world has come to this but it’s definitely teaching me one thing. To go where you are liked for the person you are, accepted for the experiences you’ve had, where you can actually be yourself and express how you feel and what you think in the written word without people taking it the wrong way or getting insulted over it.

To no longer feel comfortable being your true self in a certain place means it’s time to move on.
