Let’s Launch Into Clothing Bargains – Capes and Kimonos

It’s been a while since I’ve done a really huge clean out, since 2014/15 when I blogged about it. You can see the start of it here.

With everything that’s happened in the last three years alone, I only needed to have a quick run through of my clothes because the overhaul had been so huge. And it was so huge it’s gotten me through four years.

A few decisions came from that overhaul. I decided to stop buying black, and have only bought about four pieces since, all glittered or crystallised, so that made up for it. But I also decided to stop buying clothes just because they were inexpensive and to only buy pieces I absolutely fell in love with.

So, the data that came through is this…

In 2017, I bought 14 pieces of clothing, 17 accessories, and 13 pieces of jewellery.

In 2018, I bought 11 pieces of clothing, 12 accessories, and 43 pieces of jewellery.

As you can see, I was down on clothing and accessories, and definitely up on jewellery.

But, on the flip side, in 2018 I threw out 37 pieces of clothing, 29 accessories and overhauled my jewellery collection. I retired 30 plus pieces and changed a lot of sets. A LOT! But more on that in future posts.

I ended the year with 519 pieces of clothing, 646 accessories, and 1959 pieces of jewellery, for a $38,606.86 wardrobe.

And here we are at the capes and kimono bargains I added to the wardrobe in 2018/19.

I found this jacket on etsy for $84.87. Unfortunately we not only have conversion to worry about, but we now pay GST on our goods. Just as well it’s a stunning jacket. The black is velvet.

This shrug came from The Swank Store where I bought four kaftans from four years ago. It cost $129.60 on sale.

This shrug came from eBay and cost $50.20 with an eBay discount.

I LOVE THIS!!!! It’s a rosy pink, comes out red in pics, and is silky. By Violet & Claire, not sure if they’re American, and it cost me $79.08.

Love these next ones.

Left is a tropical print navy cape/kimono. From eBay, it cost me $29. Yep, $29!

On the right, we have a Zara (supposedly, but I have seen this on ebay from someone else, so who knows) and it cost me a fair whack of money. $159.19 AUD. Yep, cheaper for Americans, but it cost me a lot. It actually looks like a very long pyjama shirt and has matching pants which I did not buy.

These next ones are also from eBay.

The one of the left was $15.94 and is gorgeous. Very similar to a robe style kimono.

The one on the right was $29. Yep, $29 as I got it with the navy tropical above.

Well, that’s it for capes and shrugs so far. I do have another shrug coming, but it’s taking a while from the suppliers.

Next week, the tops and dresses I bought.

What did you guys buy over the xmas/new year holidays?

Ooh, closet audits are fun! I’m always hesitant at first, then as I get deeper into it, I start tossing things into the Goodwill bag left and right. And you’re right when you say that the purge helps us learn. Like, you decided to buy only bedazzled black and not buy stuff just because it’s affordable. I too sometimes have to talk myself down from bargain binges! Anyway, cool capes and caftans. My favorite is the red one on the bottom left. It has such a retro vibe, and I love the color combination.

They are fun, Tote. And when you get started, you can’t stop. You start cleaning cupboards, and drawers, and kitchens and lounge rooms, basically the whole house!
