The glamorously fabulous lady detective, The Honourable Miss Phryne Fisher, (pronounced Fry-nee) swans into early 1929 Melbourne, fighting injustice with her pearl-handled pistol and her dagger-sharp wit is back tonight on the ABC, with more mystery, more suspense and more of that amazingly glamorous wardrobe for all to see.

Last week it was all about car racing and the sexism women faced when driving, let alone in a race. With lines like – 

MR PEPPER: Women are biologically unsuited to driving.

PHRYNE: Which part of our biology gets in the way, exactly?

The sexism ruined the show for me even though I know that’s how it was back then and to a degree still is now, I just wanted to punch Mr. Pepper in the head for his sexist bullshit.

There’s also the repeating of outfits. Now I know times were tough in the late 1920s but Phryne is rich so you’d expect her to wear a different outfit each week. Repeating outfits may show us that Phryne likes to keep wearing her clothes but every second episode is way too much.
