For me, buying books is usually relegated to Nancy Drews, Jackie Collins, writing, and the odd Megan Hess book. But this year I bought a few more.
First up, this gorgeous Marilyn Monroe book from Megan Hess. She has so many out I’ve decided to limit which ones I do buy, so there are a couple more on the list. Wrapped in pink, with gold foil, there are Marilyn phrases throughout the book.

This year, and you can see my reviews on these next two books in an earlier post, these books were pretty good, and when I found them for $15.91 on Amazon I decided to buy them. I don’t normally buy MG/YA books, besides Nancy and affiliates, of course, but these were good enough for me to spend the money.

And so was this book. The Doll Twin. I first saw it on the library shelf and did a triple take. Not a double, a triple! First at the colours of the book, and then at the picture, and then at the title. I knew there and then I needed to read it and grabbed it off the shelf. I loved it so much I found a second-hand copy online as it was about a year old and new ones were out of stock.

I found the first book in the The Girl and the Ghost series at my local library, and liked it so much I bought it, along with the follow up, from Amazon. Cute little stories about an Aussie girl moving with her family to France and a chateau (Escape to The Chateau, anyone?) where she finds an old locket that holds the ghost of Loius the XVII, and from an Aussie author, but book two was ruined in chapter one when Jet’s stepmother asked about her period and Jet replied she was wearing her period undies that she’d bought her.
Just…NO. Not in kid’s books about ghosts. I did not need to know she was wearing them. Way to ruin a perfectly good story.
There is a third, maybe in six months time, which, of course, I will also buy.

I came across The Lost Notes of the Soul Spinners on Amazon by accident, and had completely forgotton about these books. I automatically bought it, as it’s the final in the trilogy. Not that I’ve read book two, either. I now have all three, pictured below.

They’re cute covers, and A Girl Called Corpse was the book that got me crying in a book review video a couple of years back.
And to wrap up, I found this reading journal in Kmart for $10. It also came in a box for $16 with some other things, but I didn’t need or want those, so the book it was.

That’s it, except for a bunch of books on authors. I’ll do a post sometime about my new author collection over at my website, tiaraking.com.au sometime in the future as items are still coming in. But I’m considering doing videos for TikTok over chrsitmas to show off what I’ve bought so far.
Other than that, what books have you guys bought this year as we wrap up 2025?
