BOOK STYLE: Fashion & Style 101

I’ve recently been borrowing tonnes of books from my local library about fashion and style. A lot of these books I had on a to-buy list until I realised I could get them through my library, as the South Australian library system has now changed and I can borrow from almost all libraries in S.A.

So I was happy to see that I could find the ones on my lists and borrowed them to see if they were worth buying. The first three are.

From the In Style magazine label comes Instant Style. If you can find it at an inexpensive price, it is worth buying. It goes through all articles of clothing and accessories, how to wear them, how to store them, and how to edit your wardrobe. If you can get it from your library, an op shop, or second hand store, it’s a great book for getting you on your way.
Fashion 101 by Erika Stalder is a great reference book for understanding what each style of clothing and accessories is called, what they look like, who made them, who made them hot, and how to rock them.
Shop Your Closet by Melanie Charlton Fascitelli covers day to day maintenance, packing luggage, sorting your closet, the kids closet, the hall closet and even other cupboards in the house. It goes through how to sort your clothes for keeping, throwing, or donating, and auditing your wardrobe.
Passion for Fashion by Jeanne Beker is a book that needs to be read. It goes through all the job descriptions from start to finish. From drawing, designing and creating fashion, to selling it, runways, magazines and all in between. It’s a great simple read to learn about the amount of people it takes to get you from clothing maker to fashion star.

I too have been rediscovering my local library. I usually go for fiction, but the Passion for Fashion title looks really interesting. I’ll have to look for it.
